What You Should Know About Your Peugeot Key Fob

Keyless Entry
Certain key fobs also start your car's engine. This is useful when you have to leave the vehicle during the heat of summer, or if you're carrying heavy items in the trunk that make it difficult for you to open the door manually. To start the car with your key fob, press the unlock button several times in quick succession. The door locks should be locked and the red LED light should start to flash. If it doesn't, the battery in the key fob could be depleted and require replacement. Alternately, RF interference from nearby buildings may interfere with your system.
Some key fobs also have physical keys that can be used to unlock your vehicle (often for the driver's side door, but occasionally the boot as well). They can usually be accessed by flipping up a flap on the fob, or pressing a button on the case. The key's physical form can slide out of an opening in the case to gain access to the lock.
Key fobs may be damaged by water, particularly when the chips within them are exposed to soapy or salty water. In some cases a chip that has been damaged could cause key fobs to stop working. If this occurs, the key fob will need to be replaced - typically by the dealer. However, locksmiths often provide replacement keys quicker than a dealer, and at a lower cost.
Remote Start
You can start your car and not need to have your keys in your car. This is particularly useful in hot weather and you're trying to cool down your car while you run on errands. There are a few things that you must be aware of before using this feature.
Certain key fobs come with an exclusive remote engine start button (for instance Ford's key fob sports an arrow that is circular and going clockwise) that you need to press to remotely start your car. Others, like Mazda's key fob, require you to first secure the key, and then press the start button.
If you're unable to start your car, you may have a dead or weak battery in the key fob. This is because the batteries inside the key fob are no longer able to send an intense signal to the car's system.
If this happens, you'll need to either replace the batteries, or re-program your key fob. The process is different for each vehicle, but the instructions are typically found in the owner's manual. Door Locks
The Peugeot 3008 remote key system enables the owner to lock and unlock their vehicle with the press of a button on the key fob. The key fob, in contrast to the standard key that has an actual hole, can store a hidden copy of the car keys inside.
In order to accomplish this, it uses a special radio signal that is only transmitted when the key is within a certain distance of the vehicle. A solenoid in the door lock converts the electronic signal into a mechanical one once the signal has been spotted. This is accomplished by moving a rod which is used to operate the car door locks as the physical key used to do.
If the Peugeot key fob isn't locking or unlocking the vehicle, there are a variety of possible reasons for the issue. The most common is an unresponsive coin battery which can be replaced in minutes. Other causes are worn-out buttons signal interference or water damage or a malfunctioning chip.

Immobiliser
Peugeot were one of the first car manufacturers to include an immobiliser chip in a key. This stops the vehicle from starting if it detects an incorrect signal being sent from the key to the car. If it's new, this is great however as they age, the chips wear out and cause problems. This usually occurs when you see a message on your dashboard saying 'anti-theft system active or a warning lamp that reads "immobiliser failure".
Typically Peugeot dealerships have to be called to create and program replacement keys. Generally Peugeot keys begin to experience issues when the blade of the key wears out. This wear causes the mouth part of the key to stop entering the lock correctly which causes more wear on the locks themselves. The problem can be resolved by simply replacing the blade. It is also possible to have the teeth of the key replaced so they work more smoothly.
