Key Fob Replacement for the Seat Ibiza
This fifth-generation Ibiza, which has been revamped is a serious contender for the supermini segment. It competes against the Renault Clio and Peugeot 208 as well as the Ford Fiesta.
With seat car keys or small flat head screwdriver (A) and pull upwards the key fob compartment cover (B). Replace the CR2025 battery and ensure that it is installed in the correct direction.
Dead Coin Battery
A dead coin battery is the most frequent cause of a key fob not locking or unlocking your vehicle. It usually shows warning signs prior to dying such as a decreased range or no power at all. It is easy to replace with a new one (CR2025) from an area supermarket. Be aware that faulty or defective batteries could cause damage to the key fob. Make sure that the battery you purchase is identical in size, specifications and voltage as your old one.
If your fob was exposed to clean water, like rainwater or soapy tap water, it is likely that corrosion has caused damage to the electronic chip. You can clean the chip using isopropyl or electronic cleaners to see if this helps, but that the chip has been damaged.
A new key fob is a simple solution. They are available from most major car dealers and are fitted by an experienced mechanic. You can also buy them online, such as on eBay. The best option is to work on a flat surface that has adequate lighting. This makes it easier to work on small parts inside. You will also be able to avoid placing things in the wrong place. Always keep your key fob in a place that is secure and safe.
Water Damage
If your key fob is soaked by dropping it in the pool or throwing it in the washing machine, you may think it's over, but there's still hope. The problem starts when the circuit board inside the fob is in contact with water - it creates a fantastic conductor and cuts off components. It also accelerates corrosion and rust.
Fortunately, this is not difficult to fix. Find something absorbent to place inside the fob. A tissue or a paper towel will work well. Then apply a cotton swab that has been soaked in isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the circuit board and other components to clean out any battery acid residue and contamination. Let the fob air dry in a dry, warm environment for several weeks.
Replace the battery once the fob has dried by a new one that is the same size and polarity ('+' (pointing upwards). It is a challenge to open the fob to access the battery, however if you have a small screwdriver that is flat at hand, it will slide in easily. Once the fob is reassembled it should function just as normal. If it isn't working then you might need to re-program it or replace the module.
Radio Interference
When a keyfob operates correctly, it emits a radio signal that is received by a module in your car. However, if the signal is damaged in some way the key fob will not work properly. This could be due to objects, weather conditions or other transmitters operating within the same frequency band near your car.
In this scenario, it is best to replace the battery in your key fob. It is recommended to replace the battery on your key fob.
A few LED lighting products that utilizes the same frequency as key fobs for remote control may interfere with the signal, preventing it from reaching receiver modules. To prevent interference, the LED lighting must be turned off, or switched to an alternative frequency.
If you've just replaced the battery in your key fob and the issue persists, it is possible that the antenna of your key fob is damaged or has stopped working. The antenna is responsible to transmit a signal between the key fob and the receiver module. An OBDII scan can assist in diagnosing the issue by revealing exactly what's wrong with the system. The scanner will request details about your particular vehicle, such as the model and make of the vehicle, the type of engine, and VIN number.
Faulty Receiver Module
The key fob is equipped with an electronic receiver that sends the signals to lock and unlock. If the receiver module is damaged, all of the on-board electronic components will stop functioning. If this is the case then reprogramming the module using an OBDII scanner or replacing the key fob itself may help.
There are a variety of possible reasons for this problem that could be the cause, such as a dead coin battery, water damage, or signal interference. You can reset your on-board computer if you disconnect the 12 volt batteries for 15 minutes. This will drain any residual electrical energy that could be causing problems. Remove the cable first from the negative terminal, then from the positive terminal. After 15 minutes, reconnect your battery in reverse order. First, positive, then negative next.

The internal chip inside the key fob can also be damaged by water or dirt. If your key fob stops working after being wet, wash it with isopropyl, or an electronics cleaner. After that, replace the battery. If it stopped working after exposure to salty or soapy water the chip is likely damaged and should be replaced.
A defective antenna module fuse could also be the reason. It's the fuse that sends an electronic signal to the vehicle to lock or unlock. The fuse can be located in several places, depending on the model. For instance, it could be under the rear seat, or in the trunk, or on the side of the dashboard.
